A common reason for tooth pain is infection of the interior pulp and nerves of a tooth. Tooth infection typically occurs when disease and bacteria have been left untreated and penetrate through the tooth enamel to the interior tooth structure. If this infection is left untreated, then you may be at risk of loosing the affected tooth, painful abscesses forming or a spread of the infection to other parts of your body or surrounding teeth. To cleanse an infected tooth, Dr. LaKendra Sakeena offers effective root canal therapy. Root canals effectively remove infection and restore structure to your tooth, as well as relieve you of tooth pain.
Dr. Sakeena combines her years of dental experience with gentle sedation dentistry to provide you with effective root canal therapy. Contrary to what many people believe, the goal of a root canal is not to cause discomfort but to relieve you of tooth pain caused by infection. Dr. Sakeena will use dental sedation to numb the affected tooth and calm your anxieties, then she will access the interior of the tooth by creating a small opening in the crown. Using specialized instruments, infected pulp and nerves from inside the tooth will be removed and the root canals reshaped to a healthy state again. Your tooth structure will be preserved with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha and the entire tooth will be capped with a lifelike dental crown to protect it. After treatment, you will be free of tooth pain and able to use your mouth like normal again.
